Signal Trade App vs Topstep: The Short Answer

Topstep is a futures prop firm, and TopstepX is the trading platform it runs its accounts on. Signal Trade App is a trading, charting and copy-trading platform for futures accounts on Tradovate and Rithmic. The two do not overlap on accounts: Signal Trade App does not connect to Topstep or TopstepX accounts, and TopstepX only trades Topstep accounts.

So the real comparison is between platforms. If your funded accounts are at Topstep, you trade them on TopstepX. If your accounts are at firms that issue Tradovate or Rithmic logins, you choose the platform you trade them on — and that is where Signal Trade App competes with what TopstepX offers Topstep traders.

What TopstepX Is

TopstepX is Topstep’s in-house trading platform. Independent reviews report that new Trading Combines have been TopstepX-only since July 2026, with Tradovate, NinjaTrader and Rithmic credentials no longer issued to new Topstep traders; older accounts on those platforms can still be traded. ProjectX, the technology behind TopstepX, stopped being licensed to other prop firms at the end of February 2026.

Topstep’s help center is explicit about two limits that matter to anyone who likes their charts: TopstepX cannot connect to external platforms such as TradingView, and custom indicators are not available. It includes its own copy feature for your own Topstep accounts, and API access is sold separately at $29/month ($14.50 with Topstep’s code).

What Signal Trade App Is

Signal Trade App is a trading and copy platform you connect to futures accounts on Tradovate and Rithmic. It includes:

A chart built on the real TradingView charting library, with entry, take-profit and stop-loss drawn as draggable lines. Dragging a line reprices the order at the broker, and take-profit and stop-loss are enforced as OCO server-side. The drag-to-trade controls are in limited early access.
An Order Flow view that separates initiative buying from absorption, with a volume profile and an executed-volume heat map.
A multi-account Cockpit for watching and protecting positions across every connected account.

Why Signal Trade App Does Not Connect to Topstep

Two reasons. First, new Topstep accounts run on TopstepX, which is not one of the broker connections Signal Trade App supports. Second, Topstep’s own API documentation says all trading activity must originate from your personal device and that VPS, VPNs and remote servers are prohibited by its Terms of Use. A cloud platform places orders from its servers, which is exactly what that rule excludes. We would rather say so than connect an account in a way that puts it at risk.

Who Should Use Which

Your funded accounts are at Topstep: use TopstepX. It is the platform Topstep supports, and its terms govern how you can automate.
Your accounts are at firms that issue Tradovate or Rithmic logins — for example Lucid Trading or Take Profit Trader, which both offer CQG/Tradovate and Rithmic platforms — and you want TradingView charting, order-flow tools and copying across firms: Signal Trade App.
You trade at Topstep and elsewhere: keep Topstep on TopstepX, and use Signal Trade App for the accounts at your other firms.
