Choosing a prop firm is not about trading skill — it is about rules. Each firm enforces different daily loss limits, drawdown mechanics, consistency requirements, and leverage. Some firms let you pass in days; others require months. Some pay out daily; others hold profits in escrow. The difference between a good prop firm and a bad one can cost you thousands in evaluation fees and locked capital.
This comparison breaks down the eight largest futures prop firms in 2025: how they differ on rules, how fast you can get funded, how much they pay out, and which platform each uses.
| Prop Firm | Daily Loss Limit | Drawdown Type | Consistency Rule | Min Days to Pass | Payout | Platform |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Trader Funding | Account-dependent | Trailing (intraday) | No | 1 day (if profitable) | Daily | Rithmic / NinjaTrader |
| Topstep (Classic) | $2,500–$3,000 | Trailing (EOD) | Yes (30%) | 20+ days | Monthly | Tradovate |
| Take Profit Trader | $3,000–$5,000 | Daily Loss Limit | No | 20+ days | Monthly | Tradovate |
| MyFundedFutures | $5,000–$10,000 | EOD trailing | No | 20+ days | Monthly | Tradovate / Rithmic |
| TopstepX | $3,500 | Trailing (EOD) | Yes (30%) | 20+ days | Monthly | ProjectX |
| Tradeify | $2,500 | Trailing (EOD) | No | 20+ days | Monthly | Tradovate |
| Lucid Trading | $5,000 | Trailing | No | 1–5 days (if profitable) | Monthly | Tradovate |
| PickMyTrade | $1,000–$2,000 | EOD trailing | No | Varies | Monthly | Tradovate |
Apex is the most popular prop firm in 2025 because it has the fewest rules. No consistency requirement, no minimum trading days, and a trailing drawdown that resets when you hit new equity highs. You can pass an Apex evaluation in one day if you make money. Payouts are daily, which is unique among prop firms.
Downside: Apex charges more for evaluations and requires Rithmic or NinjaTrader, which have a learning curve. But once you are funded, the rules are the least restrictive.
Topstep popularized the trading combine model and still dominates the market by volume. The consistency rule is strict: no single day can account for more than 30% of your profits during the evaluation. This filters out lucky traders and reward consistent edge.
Topstep requires 20+ days of trading, enforces a daily loss limit, and tracks trailing drawdown daily. Payouts are monthly, and the platform is Tradovate.
Take Profit Trader is the middle ground. Daily loss limits only (no consistency rule), so a single big day is fine. Requires 20+ trading days and uses Tradovate, making setup simple. Pricing is aggressive with frequent discounts.
Best for traders who do not want the consistency burden of Topstep but like the Tradovate platform.
MyFundedFutures allows the highest daily loss limits ($5K–$10K) and checks drawdown only at end of day. This means you can trade aggressively early and recover before 4 PM ET closes. No consistency rule.
Downside: Slightly higher evaluation fees and a smaller payout pool. But the rules are trader-friendly for swing traders who recover intraday.
TopstepX is Topstep's newer ProjectX-based platform. It enforces the same 30% consistency rule but offers a slightly different evaluation structure. ProjectX is less familiar to traders than Tradovate, so there is a learning curve.
The advantage is access to TopstepX's growing ecosystem and the company's newer infrastructure.
Tradeify is the cheapest prop firm to evaluate with aggressive pricing. No consistency rule, daily loss limits only, and Tradovate-based. Rules are straightforward.
Downside: Smaller payouts and a smaller community. But if you want to stack multiple evaluations at low cost, Tradeify is ideal.
Lucid Trading allows traders to pass evaluations in as few as 1–5 days if they hit the profit target. No minimum trading days, no consistency rule. This is unique — most prop firms require 20+ days.
The catch: evaluations reset frequently if you blow them, and you pay more per evaluation. Ideal for aggressive traders who want to pass fast and not worry about consistency.
PickMyTrade is the only prop firm built around TradingView automation. If your edge is a Pine Script strategy, PickMyTrade lets you automate and fund it directly. Downside: more expensive per evaluation and smaller payouts.
Start with your rules preference: Do you want a consistency requirement (Topstep, TopstepX) or just daily loss limits (Take Profit, Lucid, MyFundedFutures)? Do you want to pass fast (Lucid, Apex) or prove consistency over time (Topstep)?
